Our Class Quotes

We are 12 students from Mrs. Kirk’s Seminar class at Grant Elementary School. We volunteered for this project knowing it would be challenging and fun. We chose Pioneer Park as our project subject because it’s a landmark right next to our school and because it has a very interesting history.

Kamala - “My parents helped with the research part of the project, and I was really excited about it. The amount of work quickly escalated, but I learned a lot. I guess I was only subconsciously aware that the park had been a cemetery. ”

Lauren - “When I was at the park I never stopped to think that I was walking on dead people. Planning and building the website was interesting.”

Jimmy - “This project was difficult in the beginning, but as we gained momentum we began to complete more and more work. Although some of us played around, we still heard the sweet sound of the word ‘done!’”

Kelley - “I thought I would never finish the research, but when I finally did, I had fun with the technical stuff.”

Maya - “I never knew there was so much history about Pioneer Park and how much I could learn from it.”

Zach - “I was surprised how much work the project took. I had fun putting the corners on the pictures using Fireworks.”

Darian - “This project really brought me back to the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. It taught me how authors feel when they have to write all those drafts. This project really brought out my research and writing skills.”

Grace - “I think this project was great for learning info about the park.”

Gabrielle - “This project has really helped me to appreciate the park even more.”

Stephen - “I didn’t know that there was so much history to do with this park.”

Joshua - “This project seemed small at first, but it turned out to be huge. I’m a real fan of technology, but it was harder than I thought it would be.”

Connor -  “I think this project was a great experience, and I learned a lot about Pioneer Park.”

Mrs. Kirk -“I am very proud of the accomplishment of these twelve students. They were like the “Energizer Bunny” as the project, which started as an intriguing investigation into the neighborhood park, grew exponentially as we researched and learned the historic connections to San Diego, Mission Hills, and Grant School.”
